SRINAGAR: Police Monday arrested six gamblers in Drang area of Tangmarg in Baramulla district and recovered stake money of Rs 41,000 at the gambling spot.
A police official told KNS that the a police team led by SHO Tangmarg, Sadat Ali, under the overall supervision of SDPO Rameez Rashid Bhat, arrested six gamblers, who have been identified as Ishtiyaq Ahmed Chakat of Wanpura, Gurez; Farooq Ahmad Malik of Ferozpora, Tangmarg; Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Alamdar colony in Srinagar; Farooq Ah Sheikh of Harwan, Srinagar; Abdul Rashid Khan of Harwan, Srinagar, and Abdu Hamid Khan of Aabi Karpora.
The official said that they have registered an FIR 02/16 in police Station Tangmarg against the arrested gamblers.
“We have started a drive against crimes and criminals. Last week, we arrested more gamblers in the area and recovered stake money from the. The drive will continue,” he told KNS.
Locals said that the role of police in eradicating crimes is laudable. “Police from the past few months have played laudable role in arresting gamblers. Gambling was becoming a menace here but police acted on time and is trying to eradicate it,” Ghulam Hassan of Tangmarg told KNS.
The locals said the district police has got an able leadership in SSP Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain, and the young officer, DSP Rameez Rashid Bhat, for reining in criminals and other offenders. (KNS)
