LahorePakistan national team coach Waqar Younis is set to continue his tenure till the completion of Pakistan’s tour of England later this year after receiving a contract extension.
The PCB chairman Shahryar Khan has confirmed the news and said, We have not taken a final decision on the contracts of the team management but Waqar and other staff will continue until the end of Pakistan’s tour of England.
In May 2014, Younis was given a two-year contract to be the coach of the national team having previously held the position for a period during 2010-11.
Earlier on Wednesday, the PCB chairman stated that there was no reason to change the coaching staff and their contracts will be reviewed only after the England tour.
I appreciate that Pakistan Cricket Board and its chairman Shaharyar Khan have trust in my ability. I will always do my best to lift the team, Younis said.
This will be the first time Pakistan are travelling to England after the infamous 2010 spot-fixing scandal involving Mohammad Aamir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt.
The trio has been cleared to return to the game by the International Cricket Council after having served their bans and Aamir has also been named in the squad for Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand.
Pakistan will play three Twenty20s and three one-day internationals on the New Zealand tour, starting January 15 of this month.
On their tour of the England, Pakistan will play England in four Tests, five One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 International apart from two ODIs against Ireland between July and September.
