Srinagar: Parents of scores of boys picked up during the protest demonstrations at Alamgiri Bazar have alleged that the Zadibal Police Station has been dillydallying with regard to their whereabouts.
Police seized some 12 boys during the Nimr protests two days ago, said a parent who has not seen his son ever since. They were initially placed in Zadibal police station but the authorities now say they have been shifted to Soura and Nowhatta police stations.
SDPO Hazratbal, Mr. Sajjad Ahmad while confirming the arrests said that the youth were found involved in activities detrimental to the law and order and have been arrested after proper filing of proper FIR against them. As far as I know, only five boys have been arrested and they are currently lodged at various police stations, the officer said. Our investigation is in progress and once it is over, we shall send them for judicial remand.
He denied the parents were disallowed to meet the arrested. Just now, three of the relatives came to see them, he said.
Following the hanging of the prominent Shia cleric, Sheikh Nimr in Saudi Arabia, most parts of the Shia dominated areas across the State erupted against the hanging prompting protestors to come onto the roads. During the demonstration, police seized many protestors and locked them up in various police stations.
