Srinagar: Muttahida Majlis Ulema (MMU) Jammu Kashmir chief and All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and top MMU leaders including Molana Abbas Ansari of Itehaadul Muslimeen, Advocate Zahid Ali of Jamaat-e-Islami, Aga Syed Hassan al-Mousvi al-Safvi of Anjuman-e-Sharian Shiyaan , Dr Abdul Lateef Kindi of Jamiat Ahli Hadees, Moulana Rehmatullah Qasimi of Darul Uloom Rahemiya, Molana Ghulam Rasool Hami of Karvaan-e-Islamia Dr Yusuf-ul-Umar of Islamic Study Circle, Molana Showket Keng of Anjuman-e-Himmayat-ul-Islam and other Ulemas in a joint statement Tuesday expressed grave concern over the present situation in the Islamic world and appealed to the Muslims of Kashmir to continue with traditional bonhomie and live with amity and brotherhood and not to fall victims of the nefarious designs of the anti-Islamic elements and forces who were bent upon creating discord among the Muslims.
The Ulemas said the Muslims needed to foil all these designs that were aimed at stoking sectarian passions and for creating communal discord within the community. The MMU said in many Muslim countries, the political situation and internal discord would create further problems for the Muslim Ummah as Muslims were already caught in a quagmire and getting involved in sectarian tensions which would complicate and worsen the matters for them.
The MMU statement said influential Muslim nations like Saudi Arabia and Iran should shun the path of confrontation and make serious and unified efforts to take the Muslim world out of the present dire situation.
The Ulemas said Kashmiris had in the past too shown the way by playing down sectarian tensions and foiled all these designs and expressed hope that they would give priority to the unity and brotherhood over discord.
