NEW DELHI: Amid the All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) doctors monitoring on the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed saying his condition on Thursday remained critical, rumours are rife in the state winter capital Jammu that his daughter Mehbooba Mufti might be handed over the reins soon.
BJP insiders said the party would not oppose Mehbooba Mufti to be the next chief minister. However, it is certain that they would demand greater share in power.
Sayeed, who is admitted in AB 8 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since December 24, is sick, requiring oxygen therapy but hemodynamically stable, according to AIIMS authorities.
He is conscious, alert and is taking orally. He continues to be on antibiotics, antifungal drugs and supportive therapy and is being closely monitored by a team of experts, a statement issued by the hospital said.
The team of experts monitoring Sayeeds condition include Dr Rita Sood (Professor of Medicines), Prof Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie (Endocrinologist), Dr Tulika Seth (Hematology) and Prof PN Dogra (Urology), among others.
79-year-old Sayeed was flown to Delhi in a state aircraft on December 24 and admitted in a private ward in AIIMS with complaints of fever and chest pain.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh had yesterday visited him to enquire about his health and wished him speedy recovery.
He had taken over as Chief Minister of a PDP-BJP alliance government in March this year.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday wished ailing Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed speedy recovery.
“Sorry to hear about Mufti Sahib’s continued ill health,” Omar tweeted.
“Pray to Almighty for his speedy and complete recovery,” he said.
