SRINAGAR: Weather woes will continue as chilly conditions would intensify during the next 24 hours in Kashmir valley, where the first day of 2016 could bring isolated rain. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that mercury will witness further drop though the weather will remain dry in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
There would be no major change in the weather conditions during subsequent two days, he said. But, on the first day of 2016, there could be isolated rain in Kashmir and Jammu, while weather will remain dry in Ladakh.
There was drop in minimum temperature in the valley and Ladakh region. Interestingly, the ski resort of Gulmarg recorded about three degree improvement in the night temperature, though it was still coldest in the valley.
Sun was playing hide and seek but the intensity of the heat was very low as icy cold winds also continued in the valley, where the minimum temperature would witnessed further drop during the next 24 hours.
Gulmarg recorded 5 degree minimum temperature against yesterdays minus 7.6 degree, following cloudy sky. Pahalgam, where few inches of fresh snowfall was received yesterday, also witnessed a drop by one notch though it was still above normal. Against yesterdays minus 1.9 degree minimum temperature, it was minus 2.9 degree, still two notches above normal.
After recording brief respite from the cold following one degree above normal minimum temperature yesterday, chilly conditions revisited the summer capital Srinagar.
Against yesterday’s minus 0.9 degree minimum temperature, it was minus 2.7 degree, about a notch below normal.
Spokesman said the sky would be mainly clear with haze in the morning and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 8 degree and minus 4 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. There was no change in the night temperature at Qazigund where it remained minus 2.2 degree while at Kokernag it was minus 2.4 degree against yesterdays minus 1.8 degree.
At Kupwara the minimum temperature was minus 1.5 degree against yesterdays minus 0.8 degree.
There was also considerable drop in the mercury in Ladakh region, where fresh snowfall was recorded.
Against yesterdays minus 4.7 degree, the minimum temperature at Leh was minus 12 degree while at border town of Kargil on the highway connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir it was minus 11 degree.
The sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around minus 2 degree and minus 10 degree respectively at Leh during the next 24 hours. Mainly clear sky, with haze in morning is predicted in Jammu and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 19 degree and 5 degree, respectively during the next 24 hours.
