SOPORE: In a shocking incident, a pregnant woman dying with labour pain was allegedly not attended by doctors at Sub-District Hospital Sopore on Saturday.
Reports said that a pregnant woman Mehfooza Jan wife of Bilal Ahmed Sofi, a resident of Tarzoo Sopore was admitted in the hospital on Friday. The woman developed severe labour pain on Saturday morning but ironically no doctor was present in the hospital. We called a lady doctor (name withheld) who refused to turn up in the hospital saying she is busy at her home. We had no alternative but to shift Mehfooza Jan to a private Nursing Home where she gave birth to a baby boy, the husband of Mehfooza Jan said.
The attendants who helped the family in shifting Mehfooza to Nursinghome expressed resentment and alleged that doctors at SDH Sopore frequently take patients for a ride and often remain absent from their duties.
Medical Superintendent SDH Sopore Dr Sami said that he will look into the matter. (CNS)
