Srinagar: While seeking financial assistance from the government Economic Class House Boat Owners Tuesday said that they are yet to receive any sort of post September 2014 flood relief due to which they are facing tremendous hardships.
Addressing a news conference in Srinagar, president ECHBO, Noor Muhammad Zaindari said they are beset with multiple problems and due to official apathy they are even not able to send their children to schools.
Like other people we too suffered heavily during last year deluge but unfortunately government did nothing to taking us out from the trouble. Our House Boats were destroyed and we need financial assistance for their repairing and renovation. We appeal Government of India and Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to come forward and help us in the nick of time, he said.
He complained of no help from the authorities even though they (boatmen) were the ones providing shikaras and small boats to rescue people from all the inundated areas in September 2014 floods. We were there, all the time, saving people while rowing through the city in our shikaras. Daring through the ferocious waters day in and day out, some of our boats even suffered damage beyond repair. It is an irony that we are not even counted among those who suffered, he alleged.
