Srinagar: Scores of people from Sumbal Sonawari area Monday staged a protest against the misbehavour of their incumbent MLA who according to protesters not only hurled invectives but one of his Security Guards hurled Kangri at them when they had gone to meet the PDD officials at Naidkha Power Receiving Station to complain about the non-availability and unscheduled power cuts in the area.
The protesters who assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar told CNS that except the native place of incumbent MLA Muhammad Akbar Lone rest of the villages in Sonawari Constituency are reeling under darkness from past month while despite repeated requests PDD officials did not address their problem.
There is power receiving station at Naidkha, the native village of Lone. We had gone there to register our protest but the MLA and his security guards heckled and abused us. One of the Security Guards of MLA hit a protester Abdul Rashid Sheikh with fire-pot (Kangri) and he was shifted to hospital, said Muhammad Ramzan.
The protesters alleged that PDD staff at Naidkah Receiving Station supply round the clock electricity to the people residing in MLAs village while rest of the adjacent villages reel under darkness.
Refuting the allegations, MLA Sonawari Muhammad Akbar Lone said that some workers from a particular political party had locked the receiving station and even had blocked the road that had caused lot of inconvenience to commuters. I talked to Chief Engineer PDD who assured me that electricity will be restored within two days after the repairing of some important lines. Despite my repeated requests they some people continued to block the road. I did not permit them to do so and acted as the role of administrator, Lone told CNS.
Despite repteated attempts Chief Engineer PDD Bashir Ahmed Khan could not be contacted. (CNS)
