New Delhi: The Centre is planning to establish an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Jammu and Kashmir and the state government has been requested to identify suitable land for this purpose, the government today, December 07, 2015. HRD Minister Smriti Irani disclosed this information in Lok Sabha through a written reply. Adding to this she also mentioned that all IITs and IIMs are operating in proper buildings though 09 IITs and 13 IIMs are functioning from temporary campuses.

Earlier this year in January, after a long wait, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) was established in Bodh Gaya. The Union HRD ministry has finally come to an agreement with the Centre regarding opening the new IIM on the campus of the Magadh University in Bodh Gaya. Earlier, the Centre had asked Bihar to finalize a land of 200 acres near Patna.
The HRD minister Smriti Irani has finalized the location of the proposed IIM for Bihar, which will be established in Bodh Gaya. IIM Bodh Gaya is going to be mentored by IIM Indore. Earlier, IIM-Kolkata was to mentor for an IIM in Bihar, but IIM-Kolkata had refused.
The state government has taken consent from the vice-chancellor the university for acquiring 150 acres of vacant land for the IIM. The cost of establishing the IIM is estimated to be Rs 900 crore.
