SRINAGAR:Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of medical Sciences Saturday celebrated its 32nd Annual Day today on 5th December 2015, birth Anniversary of Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah, to commemorate his contributions in establishing SKIMS in 1982 with prime objective to provide specialized healthcare services to the people of Kashmir.
Professor Mehraj-ud Din Mir, Vice Chancellor Central University of Kashmir, who was Chief Guest applauded doctors at SKIMS for their contribution and serving in their home state, a SKIMS statement said this afternoon.
Director SKIMS and ex-officio Secretary to government Dr Showkat A Zargar highlighted the activities and achievements of SKIMS.
He enlisted key projects upgraded and under execution and various sate of art machinery and equipments put in place during last few years. Besides, successful kidney transplants and autologous bone marrow transplant being done, SKIMS is in process to start liver transplant as modalities is being worked out, he added.
Dean academic SKIMS Dr Gul Javid in his address highlighted the academic achievements of the college.
He said SKIMS has evolved over the years brought in diversification with introduction of various fields such as cardiac radiology, Neuro Radiology Paediatric Gastro, Paediatric Cardio and other departments like Rheumatology, Genetic Centre and Geriatrics.
Dr R B Ahuja, Head, Department of Burns, Plastic, Maxillofacial and Micro vascular Surgery, Lok Nayak Hospital New Delhi who was guest of honour delivered Sher-i-Kashmir Oration.
Dr Ahuja gave detailed presentation on Magnitude of Burns in India and exhorted for standard burn care management in developing countries.
He informed India witness death of 500 patients per day due to burns and has high morbidity and underlined need to develop guidelines in tune with Low and Middle Income Countries for better burn care management.
Besides Annual Report SKIMS 2015, two books namely: Benign Anorectal Disorders edited by Dr Fazal Q Parry and Dr Nisar Choudhary faculty from department of General Surgery SKIMS and Competitive Nursing Examinations written by Dr Muneera Associate professor Madre-Meharban Nursing College SKIMS were released on the occasion.
Hospital Information Software developed by Electronics & Information Communication Technology Department SKIMS headed by Farooq A Wani was also dedicated to the public which will facilitate patients to have easy access to investigation reports etc.
