JAMMU: Stressing better coordination between various concerned departments, transport associations and stakeholders for effective implementation of TrafficTransport Management System in the State, Minister for Transport Abdul Gani Kohli Thursday said that providing safe and affordable transport services to the people is priority of Government.
Kohli said that Government is contemplating to make Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) more stringent calling upon the concerned functionaries to strictly enforce traffic rules on the ground.
He said installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) on vehicles has already been started which has yielded good results. The Minister said that several initiatives aimed at ensuring better transport facilities to passengers have been taken by the government.
The Minister said that services under the VAHAN 4.0 programme have already been started in the State and three District Offices of ARTOs have been made online. He said all ARTO offices in the State shall be upgraded and online services shall be provided to the people of the State within 6 months. He said switching over to VAHAN 4.0 online programme in the State will ensure that each and every data of vehicle, its owner and driver shall be available online to one and all.
