JAMMU: In a special drive conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to check traffic violations, more than 72,000 person were booked for various traffic violations during the month of November.
This was informed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Traffic, Vipav Kumar, while reviewing the progress achieved in the drive here today. He said that JKP with other law enforcing units seized 3317 vehicles during this period for violating traffic rules. 45,000 violators were booked by traffic police whereas 17,000 and 10,000 vehicles were booked in Kashmir and Jammu Zones respectively, he added.
The IGP said that emphasizes of this drive has been to strictly implement the traffic rules for safety of the people. Jammu and Kashmir Police has therefore been particularly focusing on ensuring use of helmets by the bikers and seat belts by the drivers of four wheelers, said the IGP. He added that during the month long drive 15,000 people were booked for not wearing crash helmets while 16,000 people were booked for driving four wheelers without wearing seat belts.
Triple riders on bikes and use of mobile phones while driving has been another focus area during this drive as it is one of the major causes of accidents.
