PULWAMA: Two policemen were injured after angry youth Tuesday attacked their vehicle with stones in Pulwama town of south Kashmir.
The trouble erupted after an altercation between CRPF men from 183 Battalion and a Tavera driver in escalated into a brawl, witness said.
There was traffic jam in the town this evening and in the meanwhile a contingent of CRPF passed though the town.The CRPF men asked Tavera driver to move from the place. However the driver showed inability due to severe traffic jam, the eyewitnesses said.
They alleged that the CRPF men threatened the driver and also kicked him. The CRPF action angered locals but they (paramilitary) instantly fled from the area. However anger was brewing among youths, they said.
The witnesses said that the angry youth later vent their anger on a police vehicle bearing (registration number JK01F 2042) which was coming from Shopian. The vehicle was heavily stoned and this left two policemen Constable Shahnawaz Ahmad and Constable Aijaz Wani, the driver of the vehicle, injured. Sources said the third policeman managed to flee from the spot while cops fired two rounds in air to bar youths from torching the vehicle.
Soon after the incident, a posse of police rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. However no one was detained by police so far. (GNS)
