SRINAGAR: Official negligence continues to take toll on students of polytechnique colleges even as Technical Board seems to have learnt no lesson from Adnan Hilal episode. 17-year-old student committed suicide following poor results which later turned out to be a mistake by evaluators.
Students from different colleges Saturday alleged that Board recently announced results for Kashmir division with just 3% of candidates passing the exams of first, second, third and fourth semesters.
By contrast, 65% results were announced for Jammu division. Students alleged Board has failed almost 97% of students including the 70% who are detained and cannot appear in examinations.
They have a very pathetic mechanism of checking papers, a student said. They hire inexperienced contractual teachers to check papers for Rs 7 per paper checked. The normal rate is 10 Rs but the evaluated has to be very experienced.
The students alleged that more than 100 answer papers were handed over to these evaluators. How can an evaluator evaluate 100 answer papers each carrying more than 20 pages within a week, the students said.
The students said, It is a simple game of money as evaluators want to earn more and more money. Government should scrap providing money against paper checking and make it compulsorily for all teachers.
Protestors demanded rechecking, revaluation of papers to be carried by Board on its own and announcement of new results. They demanded that all the failed students should be declared eligible for admission till Board announces new results.
When contacted Secretary BOTE said that the Board will look into the matter and within a day or two a decision will be taken in this regard.
