Srinagar: Scores of parents along with teachers Wednesday staged a protest against a private school alleging that the said school is looting parents in the name of imparting Islamic Education.
The protesters alleged that the non-state subject trustees of Iqra International School are busy in minting money from poor parents while the fact is that the trustees who run three schools in Kashmir Valley from rented buildings were removed by Zakir Naik led Islamic Research Foundation for their misconduct.
The school has three branches located at Bagh-e-Mehtab, Kanihama and Habak. These schools that were started in 2013 are owned by Mumbai based non-state subject namely Riyaz Danawala. Instead of augmenting infrastructure and creating assets the school authorities charge exorbitant fee from the parents who admit their wards with a single objective to adorn them with Islamic knowledge. No Islamic education is being imparted in these schools while the fact is that during a recent meeting of parents with the trustees it came to fore that schools have been opened up in the name of Islam but there main objective is to maximize profits and keeping this factor in view, the teachers who demanded a hike in their salaries were fired, the protesters said.
The protesters said that despite getting donations from different Islamic organizations, these schools neither have their own transportation facility nor proper seating, cooling or heating arrangements. There are no computer labs and libraries and even there is no spacious space for the recreation of the children, the protesters said.
The protesters demanded stringent action and closure of these schools and they even claimed that these schools have been operating in Valley without registration.
When contacted the Regional Head of the these schools Mr Suhail Chowdary said that there were few disgruntled teachers who were shown door as they demanded hike in salaries. We are trying our best to increase infrastructure facilities and provide suitable environment to the children, he said. CNS
