Srinagar: Police has booked a senior doctor and sealed his private clinic at Karanagar here after recovering expired injections on Sunday evening.
The police action followed after a patient complained with police station Karanagar that he would have died but for alertness as he spotted the expired injection before being administered to him.
Official sources said that the complaint was filed by one Irfan Shafiq Gagroo of 90ft Soura.
The complainant is learnt to have told the police he approached Dr Mohammad Hayat Bhat for consultation and he prescribed him an injection by name Mac-D3 and advised him to have it from his clinic immediately.
Dr Hayat is an endocrinologist, posted SMHS hospital and is also running his private clinic Srinagar Endocrine and Diabetes Centre at Shah Complex Karanagar.
Irfan said as the injection (Mac-D3) was being administered to him, he noticed that it was out dated having October 2015 as expiry date written on it.
Soon, Irfan approached the local police station with a written complaint and produced the same injection before the concerned police officials.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, a police team carried out a raid and seized the expired stock of the medicine from the clinic. A police official said that on seeing the police, the doctor ran away from the clinic. However, two persons running the medical shop have been arrested.
While confirming the incident, a senior police officer told GNS that police have booked the doctor under relevant sections of law.
A case under FIR No. 68/2015 under section 420, 274 RPC has been registered against the accused, the officer said.
Presently, the officer said, the doctor is at large and a team has been constituted to arrest the absconding doctor.
He said that action as warranted under law will be taken against the doctor.
A senior doctor said that the patient could have died had the injection been administered to him. There have been number of cases where expired injection proved fatal against the patient, he said, adding that extra caution was needed to be taken by everyone.
When contacted health Minister Chaudhary Lal Singh assured strict action against the doctor as nobody will be allowed to play with the lives of the people. GNS
