Srinagar: National Conference on Monday strongly condemned the alleged torture of four civilians including a mother and son duo in Bandipora allegedly by security forces and said such incidents served to discredit the dividends of peace and yet again underlined the need for the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
This is not acceptable and should be unequivocally condemned. There have been massive protests in Bandipora on this issue today and the Administration is not providing any answers. We strongly condemn this incident and also demand that the District Administration sheds light on this matter and the culprits are booked without any delay, NC Spokesperson Junaid Mattu said in a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar.
The NC Spokesperson said the State Governments refusal to press for the revocation of AFSPA could send out a message of impunity which could have severe consequences in the State. While PDP demanded the revocation of AFSPA in opposition, they have completely abandoned this demand after entering into an alliance with the BJP. The complete silence of the State Government and the Chief Minister on the issue of AFSPA revocation is extremely unfortunate, the NC Spokesperson added.
