SRINAGAR: On directions of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, today convened a meeting of officials to increase capacity of proposed car parking in Lal Chowk from 288 to 952 vehicles.
While chairing the meeting Divisional Commissioner Dr Asgar Samoon said that Chief Minister has shown concern over increased traffic congestion in Lal Chowk and has asked to enhance car parking capacity being built near old Kashmir Motor Drivers Association (KMDA) bus stand.
The five level mechanized car parking facility being built by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) currently has a capacity to park 288 vehicles. In a power point presentation Director, ERA described the process of conversion to higher capacity of 952 vehicles, for which adjacent building of Government Press shall have to be vacated.
Divisional Commissioner asked General Manager, Government Press to shift their office to the new building in Pampore and handover the land and buildings to ERA.
The present area of car parking will increase from 6.5 kanals to 15.5 kanals and its capacity shall increase three times.
