Srinagar: Disgruntled over the involvement of health officials in scams, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) finds lack of accountability reason for rampant corruption in health care.
Laxity and apathy shown in dealing with these corrupt officials have plagued the health sector, DAK sent a statement to local news agency CNS.
These graft tainted officials are indulging in corrupt practices because there is no fear of punishment and in fact are shielded.
Lack of accountability has provided most permissive environment for burgeoning corruption.
The cancer of corruption has eaten away our premier health institutions and people have lost faith and trust in these institutions.
The heads of two premier institutions of GMC and SKIMS who are involved in purchase scams, academic frauds and illegal appointments continue to hold their positions and enjoy preferential treatment.
Anti graft measures are confined to papers only as on ground whole healthcare system is under the dragnet of corruption and corrupt officials enjoy impunity which gives us to understand that corruption has approval of system and in the process poor patients suffer the consequences.
