Srinagar: Defying police restrictions, Awami Itihad Party (AIP) led by Engineer Rashid Saturday staged an innovative protest by releasing hundreds of black balloons in air against the Modis Kashmir Visit.
The AIP activists emerged from different localities adjacent to Jawahar Nagar and amid anti-Modi slogans forced police to release Engineer Rashid from House detention.
The AIP activists led by Rashid who were carrying placards, black banners and black balloons tried to proceed towards city centre Lal Chowk when police and Para-military CRPF personnel swung into action and charged the protesters with canes.
At least three protesters were injured in police action. The protesters continued to chant slogans like, Go Modi Go Back, Hai Haq Hamara Rai Shumari. The protesters released over 2,000 black balloons in air as a mark of protest against India Prime Ministers visit.
Police arrested more than two dozen protesters including Engineer Rashid and lodged them at police station Raj Bagh. Shortly before his arrest Rashid told CNS that Kashmiri people dont yearn for packages but simply want the resolution of long pending K-issue. We have been suffering from past six decades and thousands of people have sacrificed their lives for the resolution of K-issue. We simply want to convey to Modi that instead of packages he should take steps to resolve Kashmir issue, he said. (CNS)
