Solar Power Scam
Jammu: Directly accusing National Conference of its involvement in Solar Power Scam, Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Nirmal Singh Wednesday said that he is is favour of probe as it will be the probe committee only that will be able to bring the truth to fore. He said that whatever has happened has happened with the consent and full knowledge of then Power Minister Omar Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah, the then Union Solar Energy Minister.
I welcome the statement made by an NC member who has demanded probe into so-called solar power scam. In fact I am in favour of probe and wants that people should come to know about the facts. The fact is that whatever ugly has happened has happened during previous government and if National Conference wants to befool the people then they are mistaken and dont know about the consequences, Singh told Srinagar based news agency CNS adding that he is an open book and has never indulged in corruption.
Pertinently, National Conference Tuesday demanded a high-level probe into allegations that the Deputy Chief Minister of J&K, Dr Nirmal Singh had tried to award a Rs 700 crore, 100 MW Solar Power Project in Kathua to a Chennai-based firm The India Energy Private Limited through intermediaries and brokers without any tendering procedures and in complete violation of all nodal regulations.
I was never in direct contact with the firm and have never passed illegitimate and unofficial orders to the former Power Secretary, Sandeep Nayak to allot the Rs 700 crore project in Chan Arorian, Kathua to The India Energy Private Limited. Whatever happened, happened in full knowledge of Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Imran Raza Ansari, Sajad Lone, Haseeb Drabu and Pawan Gupta who were present in the meeting. The fault lies with father and son (Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah) and they are directly responsible for all this mess, Singh said.
Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh made it clear that it was Science and Technology Department that was headed by then NC Minister Aga Syed Roohulllah that had awarded the projected with regard to setting up of 100 MW Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at Chhan Arorian in Kathua District to M/S The India Energy Private Limited Chenani in the IPP mode. The District Development Commissioner Kathua was requested to facilitate the demarcation of the identified land to the Developer agaecy to enable them to take the land on lease as the project does not entail any land acquisition, Singh said adding that there is no investment of the state government in the proposed project other than facilitation with respect to statutory clearness.
I will be first person who will welcome the probe. I eagerly want to expose those elements who accuse me of fraud. Let the probe be ordered so that facts will surface, Nirmal Singh said. (CNS)
