SRINAGAR: Clashes and protests broke out soon after Friday prayers in Hyderpora after police tried to prevent a protest organized by Hurriyat (G) there.
Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (G) chairperson, had called for protests against recent killings, thrashing of JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and spree of arrests.
Witnesses said that deputy of Geelani, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, led Friday prayers at Hyderpora Jamia Masjid following which he addressed people outside Jamia Masjid.
Intense pro-freedom sloganeering followed by stone pelting happened at Hyderpora, a witness said, forces resorted to tire gas shelling.
Meanwhile, reports coming from North Kashmirs Sopore area said that clashes erupted in main chowk. Stone pelting and heavy shelling took place post Friday prayers, a local said.
