Bhaderwah: Protests erupted in Chenab Valley on Friday after Muslims in Doda, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah took to streets to protest against what they said an intentional attempt on part of miscreants to provoke Muslims by burning pages of Holy Quarn during Dussehra celebrations in thetown.
Pertinently, Muslim community in Bhatderwah staged a massive protest and raised anti-government and anti-administration slogans after they noticed burnt papers bearing Arabic script scattered at the venue where Dussehera celebrations had taken place on Thursday evening.
Reports said that Muslim community in Kishtwar and Bhaderwah districts observed shutdown against the alleged desecration of Holy Quran. Shops, public transport, businesses and educational institutions remained closed and people protested after Friday prayers demanding stern action against miscreants, eyewitnesses told CNS.
Reports said that at scores of places in the three districts of Chenab Valley youth took to streets and staged anti-government protests.
Anjuman Islamia President Khairat Ahmed Farash who had pacified the Muslim protesters in Bhaderwah after Dussehra celebrations told CNS that they are in touch with administration which has assured an inquiry into the incident. He appealed to Muslim community to maintain calm and peace.
A top official from administration said that inquiry has already been initiated and all efforts are on to identify the miscreants.
