SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed on Monday was all praise for yoga, urging officials to make it as one of the main fundamentals of the Indian System of Medicines in Jammu and Kashmir.
I want doctors and people who are at the helm at ISM to devise some mechanism to include yoga in their system, Mufti told a large gathering of medicos during First Global Conference on Unani Medicine Emerging Trends and Projects at SKICC here. I am sure yoga will have some effect and impact over the overall health of an individual, Mufti said.
Mufti said that there were some deceases which could be cured through exercise and putting the mind in a complete control. Sharing some anecdotes, Mufti said yoga was playing vital role in peoples lives for shaping up their health.
When I was a home minister, I used to get a yoga trainer at my residence. He would make me do the yoga after walk. It really helped, Mufti said, generating a huge round of applause from the jam-packed audience at SKICC. I have been doing yoga since 1990 now, he said.
Mufti said that both homeopathy and allopathy take different trajectories to achieve the same goal of curing people. He called for giving space to Unani medicine so that it gets a level-playing field and integrates effectively into the states public health services. I hope the Health Minister shows us the way in facilitating revival of homeopathy so that it regains the stature it enjoyed in old times when it had panacea to our ills, he said.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led PDP-BJP government is aiming to turn the famed resort of Mantalai in Udhampur, into an International Yoga Centre (IYC), which will be “second to none” in the India. According to Director Tourism, Jammu, RK Verma, detailed project report was being prepared for the project. He told Rising Kashmir that swimming pools, airstrips, spa, helipads, gymnasium, auditoriums, hostels and business convention centre are planned for the International Yoga Centre which will come up in the sprawling 125 acre Ashram of late Swami Dhirendra Brahmachari Yogi.
Incidentally, the BJP led government at the Centre has been a big fan and votary of yoga. The PDP headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, is in a coalition with the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. Mufti Mohammad Sayeeds effusiveness about yoga may then not be too innocent. As the old saying goes, imitation is the best form of flattery. CM Sayeed here appears to be taking no stone unturned.
