Shopian: Sending security establishment in tizzy, a low intensity blast, suspected to be IED, today occurred in the mini Secretariat premises of south Kashmirs Shopian district.
The Secretariat was scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed today but he had postponed his vist reportedly because of shutdown called by various organizations.
Sources said that the blast occurred at 11:10 in the morning inside a shamyana which was erected for the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed mini-secretariat Shopian.
Sources revealed that the blast occurred just near the main entrance of the mini-secretariat and the CM was supposed to walk through the same location. At the time of blast, the Deputy Commissioner of the district along with other senior police officers was present there but they were unhurt.
Soon after the blast, large contingents of police and forces rushed the spot and cordoned of entire area.
The police however denied that it was an IED blast and instead it insisted that the explosion was due to firecracker. However sources maintained that it was low intensity IED blast and apparently it was aimed to disrupt or cause damage during CMs visit to the secretariat.(GNS)
