Srinagar: The State Government Friday announced that it will consider renaming of Srinagar International Airport as Sheikh-ul-Alam Airport, which was officially assigned to it.
Replying to a written question raised by PDP MLC Saif-ud-Din Bhat in the Legislative Council Friday, PDP Minister for Agriculture Production Ghulam Nabi Hanjoora, who spoke on behalf of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, said that the government was considering renaming the airport to its original name which was officially assigned to it.
Bhat said that the personality of Sheikh-ul-Alam is revered by people all across the state and keeping the original name of the airport will send a message of peace across the region.
The MLC said that all the members of the House supported his question. Even BJP also supported renaming the airport, he said.
