Srinagar: A cameraperson working with a news television was injured during pro-freedom stone-pelting clashes in Nowhatta area of Old City today after Friday prayers. Clashes between government forces and pro-freedom protesters broke out in Nowhatta after Friday prayers. Witnesses said that a large number of youths staged pro-freedom, pro-Islam and anti-protests outside Jama Masjid after prayers. The protesters also deplored the ban on beef and the sharp reactions from right-wing legislators.
Police lobbed dozens of teargas and pepper shells to disperse the protesters while protesters continued heavy stone-pelting. A cameraperson, Firdous Wani who works with News X sustained injuries after he was hit by hit in his head.
The cameraperson was immediately removed to hospital for treatment. His colleagues said that he got four stitches at the place of wound. However his condition is stated to be normal and stable. (GNS)
