SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 30: To implement Digital India Programme in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary B R Sharma Wednesday chaired 1st meeting of the State Apex Committee on Digital India.
Digital India initiative was launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on 1st July 2015 to ensure that government services are made available to citizens electronically by improving IT infrastructure and by increasing internet connectivity. The initiative plans to connect rural areas with high speed internet networks. Digital India has three core components viz creation of digital infrastructure, delivering services digitally and digital literacy.
The Apex Committee set out the basic requirements for faster implementation of the Digital India Programme and other e-Governance initiatives with directions from the Chief Secretary to the IT department to establish clear timelines for achievable targets.
Modalities to establish end to end Broadband connectivity (High speed internet) from District to Block and Block to Gram Panchayat level through fibre optics network, universal phone connectivity up to village level, e-governance and e-service across departments and development of electronic clusters for promotion of Make in India Program were discussed in the meeting.
