Supply stopped due to bad weather: SFC
Srinagar: After the delay in rehabilitation of flood-hit people by government, the victims are facing more hardships due to the refusal of subsidized timber from the state forest department.
The flood victims who suffered immensely due to September 2014 floods Wednesday said that soon after devastating floods, the previous government had claimed that all the flood victims will get timber at government subsidized rates to reconstruct their dwellings, but the claims have fallen flat as the victims are denied the same.
A delegation of flood-hit people mostly from Jawahar Nagar said that the authorities in forest department denied them timber claiming that there is dearth of timber.
We have completed all the requisite formalities to get timber from the forest department. We are running from pillar to post to get our issues resolved but all in vain, they said. They said government should give directions to forest department regarding the issue without any further delay.
When Contacted the Managing Director SFC, Arun Kumar Tikku told CNS that the inclement weather in upper reaches restricted them to get the timber supply in time. I assure the flood-hit people that timber will be made available for them within a weeks time, he said.
