SRINAGAR: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Tuesday pitched for setting up of separate flu clinics in hospitals which will help in control and prevention of spread of H1N1 infection.
President DAK and H1N1 expert Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan in a statement said that separate flu clinics will reduce the likelihood of spreading H1N1 infection in the community and will prevent loss of human lives.
Segregation of flu patients in hospitals, he said will protect other patients from contracting H1N1 virus who are vulnerable to flu related complications and severe outcomes.
Hospitals have influx of high risk patients like COPD, Diabetes and Cancer in whom H1N1 can prove fatal and mingling of flu patients with them is unethical, he said. It was because of lack of separate flu clinics during previous outbreak that resulted in the spread of disease and loss of two dozen lives in Kashmir.
The southern hemisphere went through one of the worst flu seasons on record this year and flu jabs were unable to stem the tide, he said.
Despite H1N1 outbreak alarm and flu season round the corner health authorities seem to be in deep slumber and there is no readiness to combat possible outbreak.
Health authorities are clueless about the flu activity and pattern of disease as valley lacks in H1N1 testing facility, he said.
Health authorities have failed to learn lessons from previous outbreak which led to loss of lives and their indifference gives us to understand that there is no value of human life in Kashmir.
