ATM fraudster still at large

SRINAGAR: An imposter who has fraudulently withdrawn Rs 20,000 from an ATM booth in Dalgate area of Srinagar city is still at large though according to the complainant the CCTV footage clearly depicts his face and yet the police have been showing no ‘interest’ in nabbing the culprit.

A Government employee from Dalgate area of Srinagar city Abdul Rashid Mir son of Ali Muhammad said that two months back while drawing money from State Bank of India ATM in Dalgate area, he sought help from a person after he fond some difficulty in withdrawing the money. “As I left the ATM booth, I received an SMS informing me that Rs 20,000 has been debited from my account,” he said. “I immediately rushed to police station Ram Munshi Bagh who obtained CCTV footage showing the said imposter drawing money from the ATM.”

Mir added that from past two months he has visiting RMB police station on daily basis but every time the policemen inform him that investigation is going on. “I don’t think any investigation is going on,” he said. “Police is disinterested in locating that imposter. The face of the imposter is clearly visible in the photographs and yet I fail to understand why police is not keen in apprehending the culprit.”

He appealed IGP Kashmir Zone Syed Javaid Mujtaba Geelani to look into the matter.

A police official from RMB police station told CNS that they have been investigating the matter. “The face of the ‘imposter’ is not clear and it is very difficult to identify him. We are on job,” he said.
