NEW DELHI: The government of India on Tuesday suspended the passport of Hurriyat Conference (G) leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for four weeks.
Geelani had hinted at traveling to US on the invitation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to participate in a meeting scheduled to be held in New York on September 27.
Besides Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has also got invitation to participate in the OIC meeting.
Geelani was issued a passport in July this year after the government rejected his application a month earlier saying his application was incomplete as he had left the nationality clause blank.
The hardline leader was issued the passport following his plea for travel to Jeddah to meet his ailing daughter. He however has not yet traveled there.
