OBITUARY: Remembering Al-Haj Syed Kalbi Hussain Rizvi
THE LOSS of an internationally renowned personality Al-Haj Syed Kalbi Hussain Rizvi has come as an extremely distressing news. Rizvi Sahib was a widely admired personality in the Muslim world whose intellectual abilities have earned him admirers not only in India & Iran but in various Muslim countries too.
He was also a gifted calligrapher and a talented interpreter known in international political & religious circles all across India & Iran. His school & college colleagues in Srinagar speak high about the distinguished & gifted qualities of Rizvi Sahib. His sharp oratory skills, calligraphy & language interpretation were his persona hall mark. His initial two decade stint in State Government’s Information department as a calligraphist also attracted him to a media assignment with the daily Srinagar Times from 1966 to 1970.
His powerful oratory skills while interpreting Persian in Urdu & Kashmiri & vice versa bore a testimony of his intense knowledge, professional skills & reliable command of the Persian language, appropriate word selection & construction of sentences. This earned him a distinction of another record of sorts of having translated close to 500 books from Persian to Urdu & vice versa. He has under the guidance of Kashmir’s one of the highly respected & admired religious scholars late Ayatollah Aga Yousuf Al- Mosvi Al- Safvi (RA) of Budgam authored the text of the philosophy & objectives of Islamic Revolution of Iran for dissemination to general public. This powerful work reflected the message for pursuit of development, Knowledge enrichment, individual competences, human progression & Muslim unity. He was an immense treasure of perfectibilitys acknowledged by people across communities.
He was very popular in political & religious circles in Kashmir too as he has all along been associated with visiting delegations as an official interpreter. His last official day long assignment in Kashmir on 4th of June 2015 in SKICC in an international Conference on Imam Khomeini as an official interpreter is a memorable & admired event for hundreds of participants. His spontaneous powerful & authoritative interpretation of Persian into Kashmiri/ Urdu language in particular of the speeches of Advisor to Iran’s supreme leader & Iranian Ambassador in Delhi is echoing in the thoughts of all the participants with tears in their eyes.
His association as a Khadim-e-Hujaj for 32 long years till his death on Friday 18th September 2015 at the age of 70 years in Mecca Sharief while performing his 32nd annual pilgrimage & as an official interpreter is itself an earning of his actions & deeds. His last assignment a day before his death was participation in an international conference on Wahadat-i-Islami where delegates from world over were in attendance.
Syed Kalbi Hussain Rizvi was a strong propounder of Muslim unity & worked tirelessly for community unity in Kashmir as part of the cherished objective of Ayatollah Imam Khomeini led Islamic revolution.
A creative personality of multi faceted grandeur with scores of admirers: alas Al- Haj Syed Kalbi Hussain Rizvi’s live voice remains now a heritage.
Right from my child hood I have enjoyed the glorious moments of listening to his intellectually treasured sermons. He preached high standards of sharia compliant way of life through his actions, practices and sermons.
A very large number of admirers are now deprived of his affection and valuable guidance but we all are proud to be guided by his valuable literary contribution and creative works that will always inspire us to live a life of quality, integrity and character.
