Beef ban Row:
Pulwama: The signature campaign initiated by Awami Itehad Party (AIP) headed by MLA Er Rashid seeking support of MLAs to vote for the bill to revoke beef ban Monday reached south Kashmirs Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts with overwhelming response from people from all walks of life.
Partys senior leader, Advocate Abdul Rashid Dar, launched a similar campaign in Tral town after addressing a gather in Tral Chowk amid anti BJP slogans. Hundreds including students, traders, civil society members, lawyers and respectable citizens showed their enthusiasm to offer their support to the signature campaign.
Hinting the Speaker of the Assembly, Kavinder Gupta might play foul with the bill, Er Rashid expressed serious reservations about the intentions of the government. Speaker has to rise above politics and if he acts like a BJPs proxy in the assembly it will not only amount to the insulting the prestige of state legislature but will be a gross violation of law and murder of democracy, he said. It seems as if state legislature is going to repeat the same shameful drama which it staged in the assembly on 28th September 2011 over resolution seeking clemency for Afzal Guru.
Rashid warned PDP of dire consequence if the speaker on behest of New Delhi and to save coalition govt. sabotaged the bill before being tabled in the house.
