KANPUR: A mob on Wednesday set a truck full of meat on fire in Kanpur’s Chakeri police station area suspecting that it carried beef.
The vehicle was caught by the traffic police on Tuesday night after it hit a bike and sped away, and was brought to Chakeri police station.
During checking, police found a huge quantity of meat hidden behind few baskets of vegetables. Rs 1.5 lakh were also recovered from under the driver’s seat, police said.
As the news spread, over a dozen people reached the police station and started protesting. Later, they set the truck on fire. The cops tried to stop them but failed, a police spokeperson said.
The truck driver, identified as Jamaluddin from Bihar, is being interrogated and a probe is on in the matter, they said.
