SRINAGAR: Nine teams have made it to the finals of the SHIRIN – Saaz te Awaaz scheduled on 19th September at Delhi Public School, here at Athwajan.
The teams include: DMPS Pampore, Dream Land Educational Institute Ganderbal, Govt Boys High School Pantha Chowk Srinagar, Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School Rajbagh, Govt Girls Higher School Bandipora, Govt High School Shadipora, Dr. AGM’s City School Nowgam Srinagar, DPS Budgam and Govt Boys High School Sadhoonara.
A galaxy of distinguished guests attended the semi-final round of musical competition.
In all, 11teams along including the host DPS Srinagar presented colourful renditions during the semi-finals.
Education Minister, Naeem Akhtar, Director School Education, Dr. Shah Faisal and former Agriculture Minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir were present at the occasion.
Naeem Akhtar who regretted he should have been a part of the Shirin event from the beginning, said the students hailing from remote areas are performing in the event. It is a matter of great pride and must be appreciated by all of us,: he said. It’s not about winning or losing, for me all the participants are winners.
Akhtar announced 1 lac rupees to be given to the participating teams in the finals.
The talent of students to translate the prayer in “lab-pe-aati” into Kashmiri made the prayer feel closer to the hearts, Ghulam Hassan Mir said. It unified everyone standing under the roof and made them cross their hands over their hearts.
He said we must put our hands together and come forward to take such initiatives for the promotion of our culture and preservation of our mother tongue.
Enthralled by the performance of young participants, famous singer, Shameema Azad, praised the wonderful folk wanwun. If God gives me my voice and strength back, I will definitely sing and record these melodious songs, Shameema Azad said while congratulating the Shirin team.
Ustad Hakeem Ghulam Mohammad, Jenab Qazi Rafi, Deepali Wattal and Kishan Langoo were the judges on the occasion.
