The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistan Rangers Thursday began high-level talks amid fresh firing to address ceasefire violations on Line of Control besides discussing other issues.
A 15-member team of Pakistani Rangers led by Major General Umar Farooq Burki arrived in India for the director general-level talks at a time when India and Pakistan again exchanged gunfire along the LoC in Poonch.
The defence spokesperson said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations in Bhimber Gali sector of Poonch district last evening. The area witnessed firing by Pakistan army early Thursday morning, he said.
Notably, the scope of talks was born during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Ufa Russia this past July.
Pak sniper injures Indian jawan
Poonch: An army trooper was shot at and injured by a Pakistani sniper in Krishna Ghati sector Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
Officials said that Lance Naik Bopinder Singh of armys 22 Sikh Regiment was performing his duty at Nangi Tekri post along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector Poonch district when a sniper from Pakistan Rangers fired a single shot towards him today morning.
Singh, they said was instantly evacuated to military hospital Udhampur where his condition is said to be critical.
The official said that the soldiers manning the fence also retaliated the fire which continued intermittently for several hours.
