SRINAGAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir Thursday said that the organization will not join any Hurriyat amalgam since the Hurriyat Conference stands divided.
We support unity but the Hurriyat Conference is a divided house this time and Jamaat-e-Islami has a standing policy that it will not join any camp, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including its newly elected Amir and other office bearers, said at a press conference held at its headquarter at Batamaloo.
Once Hurriyat Pasand leaders join hands, Jamaat Shoora will sit and decide about it, said, special advisor to Amir-e-Jamaat, Sheikh Muhammad Hassan while responding to a question whether JeI will do Ghar Wapsi in the backdrop of Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan and Aga Hassan joining Hurriyat Conference led by Hurriyat patriarch, Syed Ali Geelani.
When All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) was formed in 1993, JeI was a basic constituent of APHC till its split in 2003. Geelani represented JeI in APHC and since 2003, he headed one of the Hurriyats faction.
After, Geelani, under an agreement with JeI formed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, JeI was a constituent of Hurriyat (g) but JeI stopped attending Hurriyat (g) sessions some years ago.
Amir-e-Jamaat while responding to a question said, like every other organization, Jamaat too has its ambassador (Gh Nabi Naushahri) in Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK).
Responding to question on the relations of Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmirviz-a-viz Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Pakistan, Bhat said that Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir does not have any representative in any of these wings of Jamaat. However, Bhat said, Terms and conditions of all of us are same, but due to the Kashmir Dispute, we dont have any direct relation with them. We are an independent organization.
On the issue of High Court ban on Beef consumption in J&K, Bhat said, even if state legislature or Indian Parliament passes a law banning beef, we wont accept it; we will launch an agitation against it. By pronouncing such a decision, it is against the secular tradition of India herself, Bhat added.
Amir-I-Jamaat also asserted that Syed Ali Geelani and others who formed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat are just Arakeen (basic members) of JeI and cant be elected to any position, Shoora especially.
