Srinagar: Violent clashes between a group of youth and police erupted in the old city after Friday prayers leaving 6 persons injured.
Eyewitnesses said that dozens of youth assembled in Nowhatta after congregation prayers in nearby Jamia Masjid and staged anti-India and pro-freedom protests. The protesters raised slogans in favour of Islam, freedom and militants. Reports said that the youths later resorted to heavy stone-pelting on police and CRPF and engaged them in pitched battles. The youths also clashed with government forces at Saraf Kadal, Rajouri Kadal and Gojwara. The police fired scores of teargas shells towards the protesters and also used pepper gas.
