SRINAGAR: Woman-only protest march brought traffic to a grinding halt for a moment Thursday at Lal Chowk as residents of Abi Guzar blocked the arterial road to protest against the reduction in ration quantity.
Protesters, mostly comprising women, formed a human chain near Pratap Park to block the vehicular movement but had to disperse a short while later when police officials arrived at the scene.
They shouted angry slogans against the PDP-BJP government. Today they are giving us just 20 kgs of rice under ration cards, said a protester. It was 50 kgs before floods. The protesters threatened to intensify their protest if their demand wasnt immediately heeded upon.
Notably, it is the second protest over ration since yesterday in city. On Wednesday morning, women folks from restive Maisuma turned up at Budshah Bridge and protested against empty ration depots in their locality.
