ANANTNAG: Dozens of Anganwadi workers and helpers Monday staged massive protests in the courtyard of DC office Anantnag against the alleged government failure to release their salaries.
The protesters carrying the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Anganwadi workers and helpers union (JKAWHU) shouted slogans against the coalition government for its alleged failure to release their salaries.
We have not received our salaries for the last one year, a protesting employee said. We approached the concerned authorities however they said the honorarium meant for their salaries had long been lapsed.
Another employee said: For any additional work, the government increases our working hours which get doubled and even tripled at times but still they do not release our salary.
Meanwhile, District President, Fahmeeda Akhter, told Kashmir observer that they have sacrificed their youthful days for the welfare of department on monthly honorarium of Rs 250 during 1990, which was later on increased to Rs 3600. We have served the department on small amounts for more than last three decades and the government should release our salary as also increase it. They should provide us some social security for our old age days.
