SRINAGAR:The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) under the supervision of Deputy Controller LMD along with the J&K Police carried a comprehensive drive to ensure that the auto rickshaws plying in Srinagar were duly operating under proper fare-meters here on Monday. The team conducted about 70 inspections at various places in Srinagar, an official statement said.
During the inspections, 16 auto-rickshaw drivers were booked by the Deputy Controller LMD for violation of different section of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act, 1997, the statement said.
Furthermore the auto rickshaw drivers were directed on spot to comply with the rules and regulations.
The auto rickshaw drivers were strictly warned to avoid charges based on flat rates or otherwise, failing which strict action will be initiated against them as per rules.
The department will continue to carry out regular inspections to ensure consumer protection and welfare.
