SRINAGAR- Union Member Secretary Central Silk Board, Mr. H Nagesh Prabhu today chaired a meeting here to review the progress of Sericulture and Silk Industry in J&K.
Director Sericulture, J&K, Director Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute CSB Pampore, Secretary Technical Regional office, Central Silk Board, Union Ministry of Textiles and other senior officers of Sericulture Development Department and Central Silk Board attended the meeting.
Director Sericulture, J&K apprised the meeting about the various initiatives taken by the Department to bring noticeable improvement in cocoon production and productivity. He said with the technical and financial support from the Central Silk Board, a comprehensive plan to increase Silk Productivity has been formulated. He said latest production technological inputs, new mulberry and silk worm varieties are slated to be introduced to improve silk trade in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, the Member Secretary Central Silk Board said that Silk Industry in J&K has vast potential. He emphasized the need for overall development of Sericulture and Silk Industry with special focus on post cocoon sector, silk cocoon production and productivity, vale addition, dissemination of technologies and adopting cluster approach.
