Poonch: A pall of gloom descended on Surankote (Kalali) village of Poonch district when three minors, including two siblings, drowned in a river.
Reports said that three students Shafat Ali son of Fazal Hussain (8), Nazakat Ali son of Fazal Hussain (10) and Rafaqat Ali son of Lal Hussain (13) all residents of Murrah, Kalali were washed away by currents after they were crossing the river near Murrah in Surankote.
The students were returning from school when the incident took place, reports said. The area lacks a bridge and people have to cross over water to reach their destinations, residents said.
Soon after the news spread in the area, locals and army reached the spot and launched the searches to retrieve the bodies, reports said.
Two bodies of Nazakat Ali and Rafaqat Ali were retrieved hours after they drowned, a police official said, adding that efforts are on to retrieve the body of Fazal Ali. (GNS
