SRINAGAR: In a context where the power to transfer government employees gives politicians great power and where transfers are sought like gold, the state power ministry in a decision taken on Friday has transferred an engineer who has retired from government services one and a half years ago, sources said.
In the updated list of transfers published on its website, Power Development Department has shown Sheikh Farooq Ahmad at serial number 24.
The order reads that he was posted in Power Development Corporation before being transferred to head STD Ganderbal as I/C Executive Engineer vice Fayaz Ahmad Beigh who has been transferred to JKPDC.
Sources in the power department said the said engineer actually retired three years back when he was posted as technical officer to chief engineer (generation). The order shows him having been shifted from state-run power development corporation, which he hasnt served.
This telling development reflects either administrative amnesia or an error which suggests that with limited oversight, slight manipulations, even fictitious transfers can be done.
