Srinagar: Panic gripped among the hosts and guests attending a marriage ceremony after a couple of thick branches of a mighty dead Chinar tree fell suddenly on the ground in the premises of a Community Marriage Hall at Ikhrajpora locality of Srinagar city.
Eyewitnesses said that scores of people were present in the community hall when the incident occurred. Fortunately due to scorching heat nobody was present in the premises of the Marriage Hall. Some thick branches of the Chinar tree also fell on the roof of the hall causing damage to it.
Shakeela Bano an eyewitness said that she was feeding milk to her infant when she heard a loud noise. People present inside the Marriage Hall panicked and started to run helter-skelter after the branches of huge tree fell continuously, she said.
The manager of the Community Hall Muhammad Asif said that they had repeatedly requested the administration to uproot this chinar tree that was posing a threat to lives and property. This tree will continue to pose serious threat if it is not uprooted now, he said.
