ANANTNAG: Two police personnel were placed under suspension following directions of Jammu and Kashmir High Court on a complaint lodged before it by a Chief Judicial Magistrate, accusing the personnel of Special Operations Group of Police of misbehaving and threatening him in Anantnag town a day earlier.
Due to the intervention of the High Court, Sub Inspector Gowhar Rashid Malla and Constable Fayaz Ahmad have been placed under suspension with immediate effect and a departmental enquiry has been initiated into the matter under Rule 359 of Police Manual which has been entrusted to Additional SP Anantnag, an official spokesman said.
He said the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, has also put the complaint before the District Magistrate, Anantnag, for further course of action as laid down in Rule 349 of the Police Manual. The spokesman said Principal District and Sessions Judge Anantnag has forwarded a complaint made by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Anantnag, Abdul Nasir Rajput, against Special Operations Group/Joint Interrogation Centre, Anantnag (personnel headed by Malla), to the High Court. As per complaint, on July 23 at around 2200 hours, the CJM Anantnag was returning in his official vehicle alongwith his daughter and PSO to his residence, when his vehicle was intercepted near Forest Check Post at Sarnal on Khannabal- Pahalgam Road by the sub inspector along with his security guards.
Despite disclosing his identity, the concerned police sub inspector and his security guards misbehaved with the learned CJM who was not allowed to proceed in his direction for about 25 minutes and was also threatened of dire consequence, the complaint read. The spokesman said the complaint was placed before the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court who has taken a serious note of it and has sought a detailed report from the concerned police authorities. The High Court has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, to register a criminal case against the sub inspector and also to intimate about the departmental action taken against the erring cops in the matter, the spokesman said.
The president Bar Association, Advocate Fayaz Ahmad Soudagar, while taking a strong note of the misbehaviour by the policemen said in a press briefing that such conduct was totally uncalled for and warranted action against the culprits. Holding a very important person and his daughter for 25 odd minutes indicates how police can stoop low and mistreat people, he said. Well take the matter up in the High Court. –With inputs from PTI, Naveed Bhat
