SRINAGAR: Army on Friday said the encounter which broke out on Wednesday evening and left two militants dead and three army men, including a major, injured was still in progress along Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of frontier Kupwara district.
A senior defence ministry official said that armys 26 Rajput manning the fence at Eagle Post has recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition and other war like stores in the ongoing operation in Tangdhar area. Besides the killing of two militants, the army has also recovered two AK-47 rifles, one UBGL, two hand grenades, two GPS, three radio sets, two compass, one night vision device, two wire cutters and a large quantity of food items and dry fruits.
The operation is in progress till the reports last came in, the official said.
Meanwhile, the two unidentified militant bodies have been handed over to police for further necessary action.
After conducting postmortem, the slain militants were handed over to local Auqaf Welfare Trust at Bagh Baila Jabdi in Tanghdar for burial.
Later on in the evening, both the militants were laid to rest in the Martyrs graveyard, reports added.
