NEW DELHI: Moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq tonight conveyed to Pakistan High Commis-sioner Abdul Basit “concerns” over non-inclusion of Kashmir in the recent talks between Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif in Russia.
Mirwaiz, accompanied by Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari,conveyed views to Basit during a meeting with him at the High Commission here just after at-tending an Eid Milan hosted by the envoy this evening.
The Hurriyat Chairman, who flew in from Srinagar specially to attend the Eid Milan, underlined that “by ignoring Kashmir, the talks between India and Pakistan will lead nowhere”.
Mirwaiz said that Kashmir issue has to be addressed if the two countries want to build trust.
Modi and Sharif met in Ufa in Russia on July 10 on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) after which a joint statement was issued in which Kashmir found no mention.
Leader of hardline Hurriyat faction Syed Ali Shah Geelani boycotted the Eid Milan, saying he was protesting against non-inclusion of Kashmir in the talks between the two Prime Ministers.
Mirwaiz, however, said he decided to attend the event to convey his “con-cerns” over the non-inclusion of Kashmir in the Summit meeting.
Mirwaizs decision was supported by another separatist leader Shabir Shah, who deputed three member team lead by his lieutenant Moulana Mohammad Abdullah Tari.
Shabir said that events like Eid Milan give chance to talk about Kashmir.
I accepted the invitation to confirm the Pakistan envoy whether They still support out right to self determination or not Shabir said.
On being asked why Geelani refused and you accepted the in-vitation, Shabir said that rejecting Eid Milan invitation is Gee-lanis personal decision.
The Pakistan High Commission cancelled its original plan to host an iftar on July 4, during the holy month of Ramzan, to ensure that the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the SCO summit in the Russian city of Ufa went off without any hiccups.
Last year meeting between the Hurriyat leaders and the Pakis-tani envoy in August had led to India calling off the proposed Foreign Secretary-level talks between the two nations.
